Place: Tundikhel, Kathmandu  (27 Sep 2020 )

  1. Besides the sacrifice of animals as offerings to the Goddess Durga in the temples, the chief attraction of this day is the ceremonies performed by the Nepalese army in Tundikhel. These ceremonies are meant to celebrate the entry of Foolpati brought from Gorkha. The Foolpati procession from Gorkha involves bringing a Kalash filled with holy water, banana stalks, barley seedlings (jamara), and sugarcane in a lavishly decorated palanquin carried by Brahmins and led by military platoon of priests. This procession is taken to the Dashain Ghar in the Kathmandu Durbar Square where the Nepalese army makes sacrifices on Mahanawami.
