Nepali New Year

Place: Kathmandu, Pokhara and throughout Nepal  (14 Apr 2018 )

The Bikram Sambat is believed to have been started by an ancient king Bikramaditya and it is entering into the 2068th year on April 14 this year. The choice of this time for the starting of the year is considered to be very meaningful from religious point of view as well.

According to Hindu mythology, the first emergence of the sun in the sky took place during spring and Brahma, the God of Creation, also created the World during this very season. This day is a part of rich Nepalese culture and people exchange New Year greetings, gather with friends, family members and relatives and celebrate the occasion. The day is declared a national holiday in Nepal.
