Place: Swoyambhunath, Boudhanath, Lumbini and other Buddhist shrines in Nepal  (21 May 2018 )

Gautam Buddha was born the prince of Shakya dynasty in Lumbini of Nepal circa 623 B. C. At the age of 29, he had abandoned his palace and started living a hermit’s life, wandering in the forests and meditating for the sake of finding solutions to all the sorrows of life. At last the enlightenment dawned on him in the form of the eightfold path of truth which he preached to his followers until the age of eighty.

Now Buddha is known over the world as the divine emissary of peace and nonviolence, as well as compassion, moderation and discipline in life. Therefore Buddha Jayanti and his birthplace Lumbini have come into international limelight, especially after the former UN Secretary General U Thant visited Lumbini in 1967.
