Meet the Team
Rajendra Prasad Sapkota, the managing director of OHT was born and raised in Nepal. Orphaned at the age of eight, he earned what he could through odd jobs and put himself through school. Following school, he landed a job as a trekking guide, which he did for several years before starting up his own company. While being a guide he has trekked through all the popular routes several times already so his experience and knowledge of these mountains serves as a great asset when it comes to finding the most appropriate trekking routes.
Sapkota enjoys meeting people from different parts of the world and sharing the knowledge of his beautiful country. Although travel is Sapkota's main passion, he also enjoys keeping up with world events and listening to music. He is very excited to be on board the whl.travel and looks forward to doing his best for his guests.
Sustainable Tourism
During most of the treks clients are taken to remote villages where they are able to meet the local people and experience the traditional way of life, encouraging a greater understanding of their culture. Our guests are encouraged and often motivated to volunteer on projects or provide financial assistance.
OHT supports initiatives taken by volunteer workers and provides donations for promising projects. Funds are sometimes raised through our organising of charity treks.
Given Sapkota's soft spot for orphans he has founded and through OHT continues to support an orphanage home in Kathmandu for displaced kids. These children who have suffered from the painful conflict that Nepal went through in the past decade have their shelter, food and education provided for. If you also have a heart for orphans, your support would be warmly welcomed.
About Nepal
Nepal is best known by travellers for the mighty fortress-like Himalayan Mountains that inspire people to climb and conquer. Sapkota is not only proud of the beautiful country but also the culture of Nepal and peaceful relations that exist here between Hindus and Buddhists. The people of Nepal always look happy even though life can be hard on them.
Nepal is also host to hundreds of temples, monasteries, bazaars and palaces, offering a rich cultural experience. With OHT guides, you can explore cities like Nepal and be amongst nearly a dozen places listed as ‘World Heritage Sites' by UNESCO. The cultural experience is further enriched by the chance to visit and stay in rural communities and villages. We are confident that we can make your trip to Nepal a unique and memorable experience.

Meet Rajendra Prasad Sapkota and Outdoor Himalayan Treks, your local connection in Kathmandu. Starting as a young porter, Rajendra has all the local knowledge that will make your trip to Kathmandu life changing. With us, visitors experience remote villages, meet local people, and gain insight into our culture. We support local villages, and have even built a local orphanage to house and educate displaced, and often outcast, children. We hope to bring you a journey that will be enriching, but will also help those in need in Kathmandu.
