Karna Sakya

Karna Sakya, the founder and President of KGH Group of Hotels & Resorts, is a prominent figure among Nepalese environmentalists. He is committed to conservation of natural and cultural heritage of his homeland and has been actively working for over four decades.

With his entrepreneurship and combined efforts of his sons, he has been able to establish several Hotels & Resorts in different parts of Nepal, each with some unique and special features.

His elder son, Sunil is taking care of most of the operations at Park Village Resort and younger son Rajan is looking after other properties under the KGH banner. However, due to his obsession with his 'bird watching' hobby, it is always him who organises special 'bird watching' events at Park Village every year.

In addition to being the proponent of Visit Nepal Year '98, Karna Sakya has also been the past president of the Nepal Nature Conservation Society and Nepal Heritage Society. His contributions have added several new dimensions to Nepal's tourism sector. Moreover, he has authored several books, articles and reports on wildlife, nature and tourism.

Caring for destination
This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.
Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
Environmental - waste and energy minimisation
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

By helping to conserve energy and protect the environment around it, the hotel gives travellers a more responsible option, knowing their stay will have less of a carbon footprint, and impact on this amazing destination.

Some of the energy conservation measures that have been taken is the choice of not installing any air-conditioners. To compensate for this, they wanted to still ensure comfort well designed and efficient natural ventilation systems, effective during all seasons.

The hotel takes measure tho preserve the environment around it, and has been active in planting trees, herbs and shrubs. They also try to reuse its waste water for irrigation and in the fountains (after proper treatment). All the indoor and outdoor operations within the facility are carried out in environment-friendly ways.
